Tax, energy and immigration – Liz Truss outlines pledges: Liz Truss has warned that any move to “whack up” taxes in order to pay out more in benefits would lead to trouble. Taking questions on GB News from an audience in Leigh, Greater Manchester, she went on to say she is ruling out cash payments to support people through the cost-of-living crisis. Ms Truss went on to say that she will hold universities to account for delivering what they charge for and said she would be open to approaching other countries for a Rwanda-style immigration deal. During the hour-long GB News broadcast she also gave hints to who would be in her Cabinet Liz Truss said she will be looking for loyalty, competency and Conservative values in her Cabinet, if she is made prime minister, and said she would be seeking a “leaner No 10”, as she believes the current office has become “a bit presidential”.
