London Mayor Sadiq Khan has announced plans to pedestrianise a part of Oxford Street to help revive the struggling shopping area, which has been hit by the rise of online shopping and the impact of the pandemic.
The proposal would pedestrianise a 0.7-mile stretch between Oxford Circus and Marble Arch, with possible future changes towards Tottenham Court Road.
Previously blocked by the Conservative-led Westminster City Council due to resident concerns, the plan now has support from Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner.
