James O’Brien reacts to Donald Trump’s historic tariff announcement.
Trump has imposed a 10% tariff on UK goods, which is less severe than other countries but has still been described as a “devastating” blow.
China faces 34%, the EU 20%, while Vietnam, Thailand, and Madagascar face even higher rates. A 25% tariff will also hit all foreign-made cars.
James argues Trump now has “everyone under his thumb,” comparing his tactics to “Putin’s playbook.”
British officials have lobbied to soften the impact, with a Downing Street source telling LBC the 10% tariff “vindicated” their approach.
They added: “No tariffs are good, but this is lower than others.”
